The Desktops-as-a-Service (DaaS) market is relatively new, but it has already generated plenty of buzz – so much so that numerous sources predicted that the market would experience explosive growth in 2014. But, very little research has been conducted to confirm if those predictions have become a reality. Has DaaS lived up to the hype? Citrix conducted a survey of service providers who are delivering DaaS to gain insight into the current market status.
Revenue Growth Estimation
Is DaaS revenue growth expected over the next 12 months? A resounding 87% of survey respondents say “yes.” In all, 87% of service providers indicated that they expected increased DaaS revenue in the coming months, with 19% of respondents anticipating growth over 50%.
Adoption by Business Size
Is DaaS demand strongest among small, medium or large businesses? More than 70% of respondents indicated that their average customer is a small business with fewer than 100 employees. Yet, a full 22% of respondents report providing DaaS to large organizations with greater than 1,000 employees.
Adoption by Vertical Market
Which vertical markets are embracing DaaS? Survey respondents report the greatest traction in the financial services (31%), healthcare (12%) and manufacturing (12%) sectors. Other verticals ranked in the survey included legal, education, retail, construction and government.
Service Bundle Offerings
What service bundles are helping drive DaaS growth? A majority of respondents (53%) noted demand for bundled services that combine DaaS with other offerings, including file sync and sharing services (44%), mobile device management (43%) and hosted line of business applications (28%).
The Citrix Service Provider Center of Excellence conducted a global survey of service providers in 2Q2014 to gain insights into the evolution of the emerging DaaS market from the service provider perspective. The study generated responses from more than 700 Citrix Service Providers located in 25 countries around the world.
